Eco Synagogue Green Kiddush – Shabbat Parshat Noach – 13th October 2018

Eco Synagogue is promoting the UK’s first ever Green Kiddush on Shabbat 13th October (Parshat Noach)*. This cross-denominational initiative will support the Jewish community to move towards more environmentally sustainable practices, with each participating synagogue taking its own ecological ‘next step’ by doing one or more of the following:

  • Eliminating or reducing disposables
  • Using more recyclable or bio-degradable disposables, and ensuring all disposable waste is properly sorted
  • Collecting and correctly disposing of food waste via food waste bins or compost heaps
  • Using at least some locally sourced food, whether shop bought or grown by your Synagogue or by local community members
  • Having a meat and/or fish-free kiddush menu
  • Asking your rabbi to include environmental themes in their sermon that morning
  • Promoting your Shul’s engagement in Eco Synagogue within your announcements slot

If you have any queries, or suggestions of other ideas for Green Kiddush, please contact us at [email protected]

* if it is impossible to hold the Green Kiddush on 13th October, participating shuls are encouraged to find a close alternative.
